Northern Ireland Book Award Launched at Victoria College

Today the College was delighted to host the launch of the Northern Ireland Book Award 2013/14.

Now in its fifth year, this annual book award is aimed specifically at KS3 pupils in post-primary schools in Northern Ireland. Over 30 schools are taking part this year and around 200 pupils from 20 schools attended the launch. Copies of the shortlisted books were distributed at the event and pupils are now furiously trying to read each title before voting for their favourite and the Grand Finale in April 2014.

As well as finding out more about the shortlisted books, pupils and staff were treated to a performance from the flamboyant Niall de Búrca, one of Ireland’s finest traditional storytellers.

The short listed titles this year are:

A Horse Called Hero by Sam Angus

After Tomorrow by Gillian Cross

In A Glass Grimmly by Adam Gidwitz

Osbert the Avenger by Christopher William Hill

Russian Roulette by Anthony Horowitz

Sky Hawk by Gill Lewis

The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud

Boy Nobody by Allen Zadoff
