Y8 Camogie Blitz

Three teams from Victoria College Belfast attended the recent Year 8 schools’ camogie development blitz held at Queen’s. Most schools raised one team, a few raised two but only VCB brought such a big squad – 34 players in total. Despite most of the girls being new to the sport, the twice weekly training sessions paid off and they again justified their ranking as one of the top camogie schools in the Greater Belfast area. The A team included several of the Victoria College Prep team who won the Belfast Indoor Camogie Champiobship in 2014 and also reached the Outdoor Final. They recorded impressive victories over St. Killian’s (8-2), St. Mary’s Limavady (6-2), St. Joseph’s Coleraine (5-2) and St. Colm’s Draperstown (3-2). They drew with St. Joseph’s Crossmaglen and only lost one fixture – to St. Patrick’s Dungannon. Charlotte Houston scored an impressive eleven goals whilst Sophie Boyle of St. John’s (6), County Antrim player Shannon Frazer (5) and Zahra Lowry (3) were also prolific. The B and C teams played six matches each against schools from across the eastern half of the province, winning roughly half of their matches. Well done to all involved.
