Prince Edward meets Duke of Edinburgh's Award leaders

Three Victoria College pupils, Sophie McConn, Gina Gilmartin and Katie Lynn, were presented to His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, on Tuesday at a Duke of Edinburgh’s Leaders’ Recognition event.

Prince Edward heard a string of tributes to the leaders of his father's legendary Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme at a special meeting in Belfast.

The Earl of Wessex was the guest of honour at a special event in Belfast Education and Library Board’s (BELB) Headquarters in Academy Street.

The Prince met schoolchildren and leaders and assessor of the scheme and heard about how many leaders go above and beyond the call of duty to help teenagers through the awards scheme.

The Royal visitor also met BELB Officers and Youth Service staff involved in the delivery of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Joint Award Initiative programmes.

In the main boardroom, he listened to citations for three of the BELB Leader Recognition Competition Winners – Sister Anne McCourt, Caroline Harte and Maurice Millar – and made presentations to a number of long-serving assessors and leaders.
