Hans Sloane Memorial Award

The Trustees of the Hans Sloane Memorial Fund have awarded the Hans Sloane Medal, certificate and first prize to Aya Helmy. The Hans Sloane Memorial Fund recognises Northern Ireland’s top achievers in ‘A’ Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics and was established in 1960 to commemorate the life and work of the celebrated Killyleagh physician, scientist and collector Sir Hans Sloane.

Aya received the Hans Sloane Award at a prize giving ceremony held in the Ulster Museum, Belfast on Friday 9th January 2015.

We are very proud of Aya’s achievement – she is an exceptionally talented pupil who showed commitment to the rigour of her academic studies but also found time to contribute fully in the whole life of the school participating in sports, completing her DofE Gold Award and playing an important role as a prefect and a mentor.

Aya represents all that is best about Victoria College pupils who are enthusiastic about learning and determined to be the very best they can be. The College takes great pride in the high quality of its teaching staff and we recognise that inspirational teaching is the key to effective educational outcomes for all young people. Our staff have very high expectations for every girl and encourage and support them in their learning.
