Historian and author Brian Barton visits VCB

On Tuesday 10th November the esteemed author Brian Barton came to junior assembly to present the College Library with a copy of his latest book “The Belfast Blitz: The City in the War Years”. Brian also addressed pupils in Years 8 and 9, giving a fascinating talk on what life was like in Belfast during the Blitz in 1941 and showing a variety of items from that time, including a gas mask and incendiary bomb that had actually been dropped on the city.

Brian has a connection with the College as his granddaughters all currently attend – Rachel in Year 9, Kate in Prep 6 and Maggie in Prep 1 (he also addressed the Preparatory assembly and donated another copy of the book there). This was an extremely kind gesture and the books are invaluable additions to the Library.
