Storyteller Niall De Búrca visits Victoria College
On Wednesday 24th February the College was delighted to host the acclaimed storyteller Niall De Búrca.
One of Ireland's finest traditional storytellers, Niall is a truly professional and dynamic entertainer, who carries on the tradition of ancient bards like Homer by traveling the world and sharing stories with nothing but his voice and his acting skills. He was raised in Galway and displayed a talent for narrative from a young age. He then spent 12 years in New Zealand where he began working as a storyteller before returning to Ireland in 2001 - his experiences as an emigrant there have had a major influence on his work and performance style. At home he has featured in theatre, radio and at many festivals including Féile Earraai, the CS Lewis Festival and The National Children’s Book Festival. Abroad he has performed and held workshops in countries as diverse as Poland, Argentina, Italy and The Netherlands.
Niall spent an hour with pupils from Years 8 & 9, entertaining them with some comic tales based on his childhood and a new performance titled “Where The Poppies Grow” which is based on the lives and experiences of men in World War One.
