Victoria bids a fond farewell to Ms Slevin in her retirement

Ms Slevin was appointed to Victoria College in 1994 as a Teacher of French and English. She joined the Senior Leadership Team in 1998 and was appointed as Principal in 2005. 

During her tenure as Principal Ms Slevin worked with the whole school community to secure the Investor in People award, testament to her tireless commitment to maintaining high standards of teaching and learning, promoting good relationships and providing opportunities for everyone. 

Particularly interested in the global dimension of the curriculum and committed to engaging with schools to encourage young people to become active citizens, Ms Slevin was a core member of the Council for Education in World Citizenship and she actively promoted the College’s links and partnerships with schools both locally and abroad. Under her leadership, the school also achieved an Eco Schools green flag and the prestigious Inclusion Quality Mark and International School Award in recognition of the positive, diverse and inclusive ethos and practice that underpins all aspects of school life; aspects of school life that Ms Slevin was passionate about. 

Ms Slevin strived to promote the best education and opportunities for all pupils, both in and outside of the classroom. She always maintained high expectations for all pupils and a strong commitment to providing an education which is tailored to the pupils’ needs and which offers individual support and encouragement. She was a valued and active member of the CCEA Education Committee; a member of the Association of School and College Leaders Executive Committee; the Post Primary Transfer Steering Committee; and Chair of the South Belfast Area Learning Community. 

Staff, pupils, Governors and the wider school community have hosted a number of events to mark this momentous occasion and wish Ms Slevin every best wish in this richly deserved chapter.
