Success at Ulster Schools Cross Country Championships

The District B Schools XC was held in Ormeau Park on Wednesday 26th January 2022.

The day started with the Mini Girls (Yr8). Lucia Steen led the race taking individual gold, closely followed by Jessica Martin who got individual bronze. Katie Fitzsimmons, Maggie Donnelly, Ruby Scoffield and Emma Eagleson packed closely behind to ensure that Victoria claimed team gold.

No pressure, next up were the Minor Girls (Year 9). They didn’t disappoint with Isabella McCleery, Anna Bunn, Poppy McMurray, Alex McMahon, Ella Jardine and Chloe Young working hard as a team to get another team gold.

In the Junior Girls’ race (Yr10), Thea Cunningham had a strong run to finish 4th overall, qualifying through to the Ulster Championships. The team (Sophie Eagleson, Una Reece and Claire Allen) ran well, finishing in 7th place.

Success continued in the Intermediate Girls (Yr11/12) race. Rebecca Moore led from start to finish to get individual gold, backed up by a very strong team of Poppy Cunningham, Daisy Johnston, Eva Kelly, Lauren Callaghan and Giselle McCroskery resulted in another team gold for Victoria.

Last but not least were the Senior Girls. Marianne Doherty took individual silver, followed by Emma Harrison, Sian Thornton, Clara Coates and Emma Snowden. Another team gold for VCB.

Well done to all of the girls on their excellent performances. Goodluck to our 4 teams and individuals who will now compete in the Ulster XC Championships on Wednesday 9th February 2022.
