Queen’s University Belfast – Medicine – Graduated 2007
After graduation I completed my Foundation Programme and General Practice training. My medical career to date has been both varied and exciting and has led to travel around the world. A portfolio doctor is a doctor who fulfils many roles and can include a variety of specialties.
My most exciting jobs to date are; General Practitioner for the Athletes’ Village at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014 and Venue Doctor for North Greenwich Arena (O2 Arena) at the London 2012 Olympics where the gymnastics and basketball finals were held. I have also accompanied expeditions to Madagascar and Peru to name a few.
Recently I have completed a period of on-call for UKEMT (UK Emergency Medical Team) which is the UK Government’s international medical response to any natural or humanitarian disaster. I will be on-call again in May for 4 months.
Currently I am employed as a GP in Altnagelvin Hospital Emergency Department in Londonderry. Other current roles include BASICS Doctor for the North West of NI where I respond with the Ambulance Service in case of bad RTCs or major incidents and I am Northern Ireland District Medical Event Lead for St John Ambulance. I also travel to the UK for event doctor work such as Tough Mudder, Triathlons and Velothons.
Who knows what is next!
