Latin students take on the All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad challenge

On Tuesday morning, 4th February, six Year 11 students of Latin braced themselves for a new challenge, Round One of the All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad. Studying Latin always prepares a student for paying attention to detail, noticing patterns, making linguistic connections and solving problems. But this group had never formally worked in teams against the clock and without assistance to crack the codes of languages entirely unknown to them. It was a great help that within our small group we had several languages - English of course, plus French, German and Spanish as learned in school, Italian, Sinhalese, Dutch and Kurdish. Two hours
truly flew by and everyone relished the challenge - even if we found some tests impossible. Here's to the next time!
