Reaction to Belfast Telegraph article

A comment was made by the President of the Girls’ Schools Association within a specific context at a conference. Victoria College has not taken any decision or stance in relation to her comments.

The suggestion made by Caroline Jordan President of GSA was merely a suggestion to be considered within individual schools and applied as appropriate, particularly where transgender pupils are present in an audience.

In Victoria College we believe in promoting an inclusive culture and an acceptance and understanding of diversity, and therefore we acknowledge that it is appropriate to consider use of language and to avoid using any terminology which might cause any pupil to feel uncomfortable or marginalised. Young people are dealing with a range of challenging and complex pastoral issues and adults have a responsibility to be supportive and sensitive to their needs at all times.
