Match report – 24/09/16 VS Sullivan upper school

Following a disappointing loss to Wallace last week Victoria needed a confident win against Sullivan to progress further in the Ulster Super league.

In the first four minutes of the match Victoria’s defence soaked up a lot of pressure from the Sullivan attack with keeper Georgia Heatherly saving 3 consecutive short corners.  The formidable Sullivan forward had another very narrow miss at an open net but the Victoria defence made vital interceptions that denied the opposition the lead.

Shortly after this a Sullivan forward took a rasping shot from the top of the circle and slotted the ball in the back of the net. Sullivan 1 Victoria 0 .

This was the wake-up call that the Victoria side needed as after this they enjoyed the majority of the possession however it wasn’t until the fifteenth minute that they were rewarded for their efforts and equalised with midfielder Hannah Beattie providing an impressive ball into the circle for budding forward Charlotte Little to deflect into the net.

Victoria took the lead at the stroke of half time. After a series of short corners Robyn Chambers gota crucial touch on the ball at the back post to put Victoria 2-1 up.

The second half started brightly for Sullivan again winning a number of short corners however they were unable to convert. Throughout the second half Victoria were the dominant team having many chances in the circle however it wasn’t until co-captain Odilia Goldsworthy who had a surging run through midfield found herself free at the top of the circle and unleashed an unstoppable reverse-stick shot that flew into the back of the net with only a few minutes left.

The game ended 3-1 putting Victoria into the quarter finals of the Ulster super league. They will play Friends school Lisburn or Banbridge Academy next week.
